About the institute

The Orrery Institute is an independent strategic research institute focused on space, national capability, emerging technology and geopolitical resilience. It was founded in 2025 as FJRResearch.

It produces research and briefing material on the strategic importance of space infrastructure, sovereign capability, Earth observation and advanced technical systems. Its aim is to turn complex technical and geopolitical developments into clear judgements for government, industry and research audiences.

All of its work is compiled from publicly available sources. It is not prepared on behalf of, or at the direction of, any government, company or employer.

The crest

The falcon in the institute's crest stands for keen vision and freedom, the three acorns for strength and growth, and the open book and olive branch for learning and peace. The motto, Fide et Marte, is carried over from the arms.
